History of the miniature schnauzer
At the end of the XIX century in Germany as a result of the foundation of the PSK (Pinscher Schnauzer Klub) the acknowledgement of the schnauzer as a race was obtained. From then thanks to the selective breeding of the dog with scientific methods and above all to the keens will a progressive development of the schnauzer had been operated. This has concurred to carry the breed to the actual standards.
Although the acknowledgment of the schnauzer standard is led back to that supplied in the 1895 from the PSK, really the history has left us signs of their origin in antecedent date. In fact dogs similar to the schnauzer appear in some paintings of the XV century, in sculptures of the XIV century and also hunting scenes are described in some texts in which are uses dogs with characteristics similar to the schnauzer. The history of the schnauzer developes in parallel with the one of the pincher, in fact today in Germany the specialistic club of the two breeds works still in common. Initially both the breeds was defined pinscher and only differed for the quality of the coat so they was called pinscher with hard coat (schnauzer) and pinscher with soft coat (pinscher). The term "pinscher" in german means dog by rat and that is due to the detached attitude that these dogs had to the hunting of small rodents. This their dowry was often exploited to organize true "gamings-houses" in which dogs fight in a bull-ring against hotdes of rats and people bet on the number of rodents that the dog succeeded to kill. As has initially been pointed out, with the birth of the PSK we had the acknowledgment of the schnauzer as a breed, but the actual name will be assigned to it only in the XX century when the breeders will begin to select pinscher with hard coat and beard. In fact the term schnauzer means "long beard" and refers to this its characteristic. The Birth of the PSK in 1895 will mark therefore an important step in the increase and the development of the breed because it will give origin to the first reunions of passionates and breeders from which will originate the standards of the schnauzer before and zwergschnauzer (minature schnauzer) then. The last standard written out will be that of the riesen schnauzer (giant schnauzer). The rest is history of our days.
